Partita a scacchi. We could say that it is the clash, in chess terms, between two metaphysical visions: Picasso and Franchi.
Two forms of chess diverge sharply in their presence. The whites with suffering shapes, a sort of Guernica memory, and the blacks with bizarre shapes, but with an aggressive attitude. A checkmate? Or just a move that eats the queen? Unlike his other paintings, here the color highlights a subject, in a scene dominated by gray tones, the same chessboard is relegated to a corner, as if the game has turned into a real confrontation in a moment. Everything gives a sense of drama. An assault on the opponent.
