Dedication to Dresden. If it were not painted on fabric, this work dedicated to Dresden could be considered a mosaic. The painter wanted to summarize in this homage three characteristic elements of this German city: the baroque church Frauenkirche famous for its large dome. Versailles-inspired Zwinger Palace houses museums including the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, and Raphael’s “Sistine Madonna” masterpiece.
The whole scene is built with small colored elements that rise towards the sky and from the black of the buildings, they evolve to take the colors that represent the Raffaellian Madonna. Transfiguration in a modern key does not make the scene lose value, on the contrary it shows all respect for architectural aspects and above all for the Grand Master of Italian painting, while maintaining its originality with strength.
