Las Meninas is a work from Giovanni Crisostomo’s collection.

Revisitation of the famous painting by Diego Velasquez “Las Meninas” of 1656. If in the original, Velasquez portrayed the Infanta Margarita, daughter of the Queen of Spain surrounded by her personal court. In the work of Crisostomo, with his typical hatching and inserted in an ellipse that acts as a focal lens, only the figure of the infant and the hunting dog and his company dwarf emerges, making all the disappear in a collage of colors and other subjects and elements present in the original. Even the rich dress becomes a sort of dance tutu. The real peculiarity is that the only face outlined is precisely that of the dwarf, while the rest disappears, as if to pay homage to that figure once used as fun and now brought back to its dignity as a normal person, even making it the central character. In his long professional experience, the artist has had the opportunity to attend great masters both in Italy and abroad, which have allowed him to perfect his art. His works have an unmistakable personality and style. His style takes inspiration from the currents of the great French painters of the second half of the 19th century and from the Futurism of the early 20th century. Two great schools to which contemporary art often turns. In the case of Giovanni Crisostomo, there is a fusion and an original evolution of these two artistic movements, which allows him to create with an unmistakable and original style and at the same time to enter into very different themes.
