What expectations are there in the woman whose face framed by soft brown hair is only underlined by two barely visible eyes? Is the bouquet of flowers the gift of a loved one? Here and there some flowers appear in a purple sky. The woman is standing behind them, her gaze passes them as if to give greater importance to those who gave them to her, it seems that she is holding a note in one hand, but there is no joy in her eyes. Expectations disappointed or pending confirmation? It is not up to us to decide, the artist has deliberately left this doubt in the viewer. We can admire the simplicity of the scene and at the same time how all the elements, even if not plastically defined, manage to get their attention. The chiaroscuro of the background, offsetting the stronger colors of the two main subjects, enhance the outlines.
