Billie Holiday, is a painting belonging to the series “Jazz People” by Roman Nogin.

Billie Holiday. Was an American singer, who is among the greatest of all time in the jazz and blues genres. She decided to call herself “Billie” in homage to actress Billie Dove. As her surname, he chose that of her father, Clarence Halliday, known as Clarence Holiday. This singer could not be missing among the characters immortalized by Roman in his paintings. This series includes compositions of various types: portraits, compositions of several figures, and decorative and abstract compositions of musical instruments. But they connected to a single theme: jazz music.
The main concept of all these paintings is to express jazz music through color, lines and plastic shapes, style, and transformation of images. In the portraits of musicians, I transform the face, hands, and musical instruments into a single plastic language, combining the figurative and emphasizing what creates music which is the independent rhythmic essence of the whole image.
