Angela Davis, is a work of Marie Reine Levrat Ascolese collection.

Angela Davis. Work belonging to the series “Important women of the twentieth century”. Reproduces the portrait of a woman famous for her political commitment in the USA. Active member of the US Communist Party until 1991, she was one of the founders, following the attempted Soviet coup d’état to depose Mikhail Gorbachev and the fall of the Berlin Wall, of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, born from a split of a wing of the Party more inclined to abandon Leninist theories and precepts, while continuing to have relations with it. In recent years, it has tenaciously lashed out against the degeneration of the African-American movement towards Islamic fundamentalism (the reference is to the Islamic Nation of Louis Farrakhan, an Islamist and macho movement, and to its ally New Black Panther Party, which have filled the void left by the disappearance of the secular and progressive Black Panthers).
